To whom it may concern,
I have several reasons for pursuing a Post-MSN certificate in PMHNP-Family, the primary of which being that I am very passionate about this profession and helping those around me. I know I am capable of more professionally. I am prepared to offer more to those I care for. There are many patients and families seeking an adequate standard of care, but in many cases they do not receive this based on the facility or the caregiver.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I am already experienced at working with families. I am able to work with patients of all ages in a variety of circumstances. I have successfully administering antibiotics, therapeutic remedies, and all other successful healthcare interventions in order to ensure the highest level of care was achieved for each individual patient. My specialty has been in gastrointestinal issues, and as such I have developed a care system working within the framework of Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Theory. I believe it is important I am there for my patients in every way possible, but that they are a part of their recovery in an effort to avoid readmission to the facility. This framework also allows them to better care for themselves upon discharge, while also learning more about their condition. I have been acting in this capacity for over seven years, and there has not been a day that has gone by where I have not enjoyed my work.
I owe much of my success in this field to my bedside manner; I understand my patients struggle with more than just physical ailments. Realizing this has led me appreciate the need for mental health comprehension in our healthcare system. As such, I would like to broaden my understanding of this part of the healthcare field in order to be a bigger part of a patient's healing in this manner. It is important that each patient is assessed and helped in all areas of health, rather than only concerning physical illnesses and injuries. I am very passionate about caring for all of my patients' needs.
This specific issue is perhaps much more important to me because I live in a rural area. Opportunities for residents to have mental healthcare assessments are rare. At times they are completely inaccessible, leaving patients entirely without mental healthcare. In fact, my area does not have a specified mental health care specialist or psychiatrist. It is important for patients to feel that a healthcare professional is accessible to them for any mental healthcare needs that may arise. I also believe my work within the Self-Care theory will be of great use to those suffering from any mental illness, as I can help them learn how to cope outside a healthcare facility in a variety of ways. This can be invaluable in a rural area such as mine.
I
understand the professional and personal life modifications I will need to make throughout the program will likely be difficult and continuous, but I am prepared to do whatever it takes. I have already begun to minimize outside responsibilities within reason in order to prioritize necessary responsibilities and enhance time that will be available to study. It is important to also have time available to recharge in order to avoid burnout, and I have also done this. I am taking steps to form a study group. It will provide support, as well as several individuals who will provide a different understanding of the material we are presented with. Concerning professional modifications, I will be sure to let my place of business know what I am doing in an effort to ensure I have the flexibility necessary to complete all assignments while still maintaining my occupational responsibilities.
My goals for graduate education are simple. I wish to learn all I can throughout the program and apply it to my work. I want to use all I learn in order to help as many as possible. More than that, however, I hope to continue growing professional, allowing myself to become a better nursing in all capacities s that my patients may know they are in the best care possible both physically and mentally.
I look forward to being a part of your program and growing both personally and professionally as I learn more from your accredited faculty and staff. Thank you for your consideration.
